Technology was the main sector in the mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity in Brazil in the first half of this year, according to statistics by consulting firm KPMG.
Between January and June 2015, there were 75 M&A transactions involving technology companies in Brazil, according to the report. By comparison, there were 54 operations in the previous six-month period, so a 38 percent increase.
Internet was the second most active sector in the M&A activity this year, with 43 companies from the segment involved in such transactions. There was no change in the deal volume there as the same amount of M&A operations over the period was seen in the last six months of 2014, according to KPMG.
Separate research from PwC suggests that mergers and acquisitions activity within the technology sector in Brazil saw the steepest climb of the last 14 years in 2014, with 141 such transactions carried out during the year.
