J.D. Power and Associates said Thursday that businesses of all stripes were more satisfied with telecom providers' data services due to fewer outages.
The number of short duration outages (less than 5 minutes) fell 16 percent in 2010 relative to 2009. Extended outages fell 11 percent in 2010 compared to 2009.
Outage tracking is critical for data providers since nearly 20 percent of the customers who experience three or more outages are likely to switch providers.
J.D. Power broke down the rankings for three different business segments. For home-based businesses, Cablevision's Optimum Business delivered the most satisfaction. For small and mid-sized businesses, Cox Communications landed the top score. For large enterprises, Verizon had the highest score followed close behind by AT&T.
