Juniper buys Trapeze networks for $152 million

Juniper Networks said Tuesday that it will acquire Trapeze Networks, which makes wireless local area network (WLAN) systems, from Belden in a deal valued at $152 million.

The deal, expected to close in the fourth quarter, gives Juniper WLAN products for its portfolio. Juniper said it will take Trapeze's gear and integrate it with its switching, routing and security businesses.

In many respects, the Juniper purchase revolves around mobile devices and supporting converged networks. Juniper said it will take Trapeze's wireless technologies for deployment in the enterprise.

Juniper also gets key intellectual property in the wireless networking space. Trapeze holds 17 patents with 49 more pending.

In a blog post, David Yen, executive vice president of Juniper's data center unit, said:

By making WLAN infrastructure a key part of our portfolio, we plan to accelerate Juniper’s growth in the enterprise market and deliver on a complete vision for the new network.
