Bethesda Softworks has confirmed that the hit gaming title The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is to get Kinect support on the Xbox 360 console.

The update, which will be available as a free download, will bring support for more than 200 voice commands to the game. All menu items will be supported, as well as hotkey equipping, follower commands and shouts. (If you play the game then all this will mean something to you; if not, it will mean nothing.) As well as support for existing commands, Kinect support will also bring new including special map functions, additional hotkey options, and the ability to sort inventory items by name, weight, and value.

Bear in mind that there is only support for voice commands. You can't fight dragons by waving your hands in front of your console.

Kinect has already been a huge hit for Microsoft, but integrating support into a hit game like Skyrim will undoubtedly result in an increase in sales (and exposure) for the Kinect. It also helps to expand the reach of the Kinect beyond casual/kids gaming and into a more hardcore market.

A full list of supported voice commands will be released in a few weeks.
