Kodak loses round in Apple and RIM patent suit

Kodak has lost an initial ruling in its lawsuit over Apple and Research In Motion's use of image preview technology in digital cameras

Kodak has lost a ruling in an International Trade Commission patent suit against Apple and Research In Motion.

The company said in a statement on Monday that a judge determined that its patent claim, arguing that Apple and Research In Motion (RIM) were infringing on image preview technology in digital cameras, was invalid.

Although the ruling was a setback, the final commission ruling will come 23 May, and the company "fully expects the [commission] will ultimately rule that the patent claim at issue is valid and infringed by Apple and RIM", according to Laura G Quatela, Kodak's general counsel.
