The upstart LED e-tailer that could, HolidayLEDs.com, collected more than 10,000 pounds of incandescent Christmas and holiday lights during its third annual recycling drive.

That was at least double what was collected last year. Although the drive was supposed to end on Feb. 28, 2010, the company will continue it indefinitely. The main difference between this year and past years is that the company encouraged bulk donations: in other words, it requested that participants collect lights from their friends, families and co-workers to increase the amount collected. Those who sent their lights in during the original collection period will receive a coupon worth 15 percent off LED holiday or decorative lights from the e-commerce company.
