Lenovo to Dell: By the end of the year we'll be #2

Following a period of strong growth compared tot he competition, Lenovo expects to be the second-largest PC OEM by the end of the year.

Lenovo expects to have overtaken Dell to become the second-largest PC OEM by the end of the year.

Lenovo chairman Liu Chuanzhi made the comments on Thursday to the Chinese news media.

The Chinese OEM has already pushed Acer aside to grab the #2 spot in global PC sales with a 12.2% market share. Given that Dell is only at 12.9%, the chairman is convinced that the Chinese OEM will beat this by the end of the year because the company is seeing the fastest growth among the top five OEMs.

The top OEM is HP, with 18.1% of the market share. However, HP's future as a PC OEM remains uncertain and this is causing some customers to look elsewhere.
