LG CNS, the IT service subsidiary of LG Group, has built a cloud-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) marketplace for use by startups and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the company has announced.
The marketplace will be aimed at software developers who don't have enough money to build their own systems and lack sales networks.
LG is aiming for a September launch, and is looking for a sales partner and a software developer. The company will provide its solutions for marketing, human resource management, security, log analysis, web servers, and middleware. Twenty companies in ERP, CRM, and contents have shown interest in opening up shop.
LG CNS will offer lower commissions, promotions, and technology, among other benefits, to those who use the marketplace.
"Our aim is to build a cloud ecosystem, not to make profits, considering that cloud is still in the early stages in Korea," said an LG CNS spokesman.
LG also recently released its new flagship G4 smartphone and smartwatch, the LG Watch Urbane. In Q1 2015, LG jumped to fourth place in global smartphone shipments, with 6.2 percent market share -- behind Samsung, which had 27.8 percent; Apple, with 19.9 percent; and Huawei, with 7 percent.
