SINGAPORE--Even the Liverpool football club, and its fans, have not been spared from the high-tech world of wireless technology.

Apart from merchandise such as the team jersey, fans can now own a special edition Liverpool Football Club M35i mobile phone--the result of a partnership between the English team and Siemens Mobile Phones.

In a statement, Siemens said the M35i will carry the club's logo on the front and back. In addition, it has wireless application protocol Internet access, short messaging system with Intelligent Typing, picture messaging, a stopwatch and clock.

According to Siemens Mobile Phones Singapore country manager Tan Kah Wee, there are only "a few hundred" phones available.

Tan said that Siemens' Munich headquarters has an existing relationship with the club and this is an extension of that relationship. "As such, we find this a perfect time to launch the limited edition club phones when Liverpool FC is here in Singapore."

As part of its Asian tour, fans will be able to see the Liverpool stars in action on July 16 here.

The phone, which will retail for S$168, is available from StarHub with a two-year subscription plan. It can also be purchased from StarHub booths set up at the National Stadium on match day, Tan said.

Football is familiar terrain for Siemens. The company is also a major sponsor of Manchester United FC's upcoming match in Bangkok.

Although there are no plans to launch a Manchester United mobile phone, Tan said: "Consumers and soccer fans can expect a host of exciting programs from Siemens in leading up to the match."
