Marks and Sparks gets Net savvy

From October customers of leading high street store Marks & Spencer will be able to shop on-line as the company gears up for online retail.

Marks & Spencer's existing Website is information only -- orders must be made by telephone -- but in preparation for the Christmas rush online orders for selected gift lines such as ties, socks and slippers will be accepted. Payment will be possible using the M&S Chargecard, Switch and Delta.

A spokesperson for Marks & Spencer denied the company was entering online retail late: traditional competitor, John Lewis has a Websites but does not support online retail and has no plans of doing so in the near future. Another competitor, BHS, does not have a Website.
