SYDNEY (ZDNet Australia)--Despite sources revealing that telecommunications provider MCI WorldCom is cutting employees from its Australian operation, the telco is remaining tight-lipped about the alleged slaying.

“We’re not commenting at this stage, we don’t comment on speculation,” a spokesperson for MCI WorldCom told ZDNet.

According to an anonymous source, WorldCom is currently retrenching staff from its Australian operation.

“The cleanout is happening right now,” the source said.

MCI WorldCom has around 700 staff locally, which includes employees from its wholly-owned subsidiary UUNET.
