MCI WorldCom tests super-fast Net

New fibres carry one terabit of Internet traffic per second
Written by Jennifer Mack, Contributor

MCI WorldCom announced Tuesday it has successfully completed the first commercial test of next-generation optical networking equipment that can carry a terabit of Internet traffic every second.

The hair-thin fibres from Nortel Networks have the capacity to enable one million, one megabit multimedia connections. The test took place in late December and carried live Internet, voice and data traffic over a network linking Dallas and Longview, Texas.
