Microsoft Hyper-V and Spin Marketing

It is not at all uncommon for competitors to arrange a briefing prior to a large, important announcement to present their marketing spin on the announcement. They are, of course, hoping to change the viewpoint of the analyst, journalist, consulting, etc. to their liking and, in the end, produce a negative or, at least, a skeptical story.

It's obvious to me that Microsoft's Hyper-V announcement must have been seen as very important by Microsoft's friends and enemies alike. I've gotten at least 20 requests for marketing spin briefings.  I, of course, don't have the time (or interest) to hear everyone's spin on Microsoft's announcement. One or two of them, on the other hand, are likely to be very interesting.

As I spend some time with executives of these companies, I'll post something here that presents their spin and my analysis. What fun!
