Microsoft launches latest Media Player

Microsoft is to offer an online music service as part of the next upgrade to Windows Media Player. The beta of version 9, is due to be released on 4 September and will offer a service backed by Sony and Vivendi Universal, according to reports on Cnet Windows Media Player 9 will provide a 'Services' button which enables users to sign up for a trial subscription to PressPlay, Sony and Vivendi Universal's online music service. The move is seen as an attempt to compete with rivals AOL Time Warner and RealNetworks.
