Microsoft's Skype for Business for iOS is generally available. The Mac OS version of the app is due next year.

Microsoft has made its Skype for Business app for iOS generally available as of October 14.

The new free Skype for Business app is accessible from the iTunes Store. iPhone users currently using the existing Lync 2013 will automatically get updated to the Skype for Business app. iPad users with Lync 2013 will need to download the new Universal app from the store.

The new app is designed to provide faster access to meetings with a single touch; an improved meeting experience with full-screen video and simultaneous viewing; and additional authentication and security options for IT admins.

Microsoft made available public previews of Skype for Business apps for iOS and Android in mid-August. The Android version is still in preview, but is due before the end of the calendar year.

What about a Skype for Business app for Mac OS? That app isn't expected now until some time in 2016. Microsoft originally was targeting this year for Skype for Business for Mac availability, but pushed that date back earlier this year.
