Mirror emails push Morgan's resignation

Mirror editor struggling to find amusing headline as DTI inspectors close in
Written by ZDNet UK, Contributor

Mirror editor Piers Morgan is under investigation by the DTI following the seizure of email showing he had shares in another company repeatedly tipped by his newspaper.

The Sunday Business newspaper revealed that Morgan, who narrowly escaped prosecution last year for improper share dealing, held shares in high-tech company NXT which was heavily tipped by Morgan's 'City Slickers' columnists.

According to the report, the emails show:

  • email that undermines Morgan's defence for buying shares in Viglen before City Slickers tipped it

  • Morgan approved articles about companies he had shares in
  • City dealers demanded advance notice of Mirror tips in return for inside information.
  • The report adds to mounting pressure that Morgan should resign.
