With Asia’s Internet market growing at such a phenomenal rate, advertisers are looking at new means to get their name known.

Looking at the top banner in each Asian market in December and January, only hongkong.com’s banner maintains its number one position as most seen banner in Hong Kong. In China, sina.com stays on top but with different creative, having targeted the Christmas season with their December design.

In China, local sites easily dominate the top 10 list of domain in terms of overall rankings. In cosmopolitan Hong Kong, a mix of both International and local sites come out on top.

Hong Kong’s huge Instant Messaging penetration helps icq.com rank in at number 9. In Korea, only two international sites – yahoo and lycos make it to top 10 list. The rest of the list consists of a local hosting site (superboard.com), sayclub.com (a site devoted to chat), local community site iloveschool.co.kr and local Korean portals daum.net, naver.com, dreamwiz.com, hanmir.com and netian.com.

In Singapore, international sites show their presence while in Taiwan, popular domains tend to be ‘homegrown’, with only one international site, yahoo.com, making it into the top rankings.
