MS, SGI to team on graphics
Silicon Graphics (SGI) and Microsoft will tomorrow announce a graphics-related partnership.
At SGI's Mountain View, California headquarters, the two companies will discuss what they describe as "a significant change in graphics technology". Speakers will include SGI chairman and CEO, Ed McCracken, and Microsoft vice president of platforms and applications, Paul Maritz.
Silicon Graphics has long been regarded as a pioneer in workstation graphics and is the power behind many Hollywood special effects. Microsoft has worked on graphics technology in internal projects as it seeks to make the PC a vehicle for applications previously the domain of more expensive architectures.
