MSI has launched the GX740, a brand new gaming computer ready for the taking, and it's got some seriously powerful specs underneath that cherry red and black hood.

The 17-inch MSI notebook boasts some high-end power from the pairing of an Intel Core i7-720QM 1.6GHz CPU with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 graphics card with 1GB of dedicated DDR5 memory. Tack on some SRS-certified speakers, Cinema Pro technology and DirectX 11 graphics support, and you have yourself quite the entertainment machine.

MSI is also promoting this is a "desktop replacement," which is a given granted the seven pounds this thing weighs.  Here's a closer look as to just what is inside the brushed aluminum chassis that should round out the GX740's gaming experience:

  • 17-inch TFT-LCD widescreen display (1,680 x 1,050 resolution)
  • Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS
  • Intel HM55 chipset
  • 4GB of DDR3 memory
  • 500GB 7200 rpm hard drive
  • DVD Super-Multi or Blu-ray optical drive
  • Bluetooth
  • 802.11 b/g/draft-n Wi-Fi
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • XD/SD/MMC/MS card reader
  • 2.0-megapixel webcam
  • 9-cell battery
  • Subwoofer
  • Connectivity: Three USB 2.0 ports, VGA and HDMI outputs, ExpressCard slot

The MSI GX740 is available over on Newegg and Amazon now. The price tag isn't too exorbitant either, starting at $1,399.99.
