MWC 09: Nokia Ovi Store better than Apple App Store?

Dieter Bohn is working hard at Mobile World Congress this week and stopped by to chat with the folks at Nokia about the upcoming Ovi Store. While the press release I wrote about had a few details, such as the "social location" functionality, Dieter was able to find out many more details about the application store. Dieter even stated that it was better than the Apple iPhone App Store, which is saying something since Dieter is still learning about Nokia and the S60 platform and has an iPhone.

Dieter points out the three major unique features of the Nokia Ovi Store; what works, what your friends like, and where you are. Since there are so many Nokia devices (S60 and Series 40) available the store will filter the applications to only those that work with your specific model. This is important to help prevent people from installing applications that won't work on their devices, which would make for a poor end user experience. As S60 5th Edition rolls out (with touch support) there are many applications that don't work or don't work well yet so the new Ovi Store would keep these apps from showing up in the storefront.
