Netegrity guards HR firm's portal site

During the six months it took to implement a new information portal for HR professionals, Hewitt Associates spent the bulk of its time time on security, says Tim Hilgenberg, chief technology strategist in Hewitt's Line of Business group.

Netegrity's SiteMinder Web site security software got the nod over Entrust GetAccess and IBM Tivoli Policy Director because of its flexible architecture, according to Hilgenberg. "You can put little bits of SiteMinder here and there, while leaving other software components in place," he maintains.

SiteMinder's functionality includes single sign-on, authentication, and "entitlement management," for managing what users are allowed to do on a Web site.

"We're using SiteMinder to secure all Internet-facing resources, as well as to provide a single sign-on point for both internal and external communications," says Hilgenberg. Hewitt also uses SSL encryption for clients accessing its portals across the Web.
