The online movie subscription service Netflix is to launch in the UK and Ireland early next year, the US-based company said on Monday.
The streaming service, already available in the Americas, lets people watch unlimited TV shows and movies for a monthly subscription fee, with the ability to view the content on TVs, computers, tablets and smartphones.
According to Netflix, UK pricing, content and supported devices will be announced closer to the launch. In the US, the service costs $8 (£5) a month.
Netflix will find itself in competition with Amazon UK, which bought Lovefilm earlier this year.
Meanwhile, UK Android users can now also get a US service that was until recently not available here. Last week, Google Films appeared in the UK Android market.
Google's service lets people rent films for £2.49 or £3.49 each, with the ability to start watching the films up to 30 days after the rental has taken place.
