Symantec's Java development division has received a double shot in the arm after Netscape said it would support Visual Cafe in its Open Network Environment (ONE) and bundle its Java Just-in-Time Compiler 2.0 with all Netscape Windows and Macintosh products.

The deal is another blow to Borland, another tools company that has been tightly linked to Netscape and Java development. Loss-making Borland recently announced plans to lay off 15 per cent of its staff and has lost several high profile developers to Microsoft.
