Netscape, Yahoo! team for Net Guide

Netscape and search engine vendor Yahoo! have banded together to ease Web navigation and broadcasting.
Written by Martin Veitch, Contributor

Called Netscape Guide by Yahoo!, the service will use the forthcoming Netscape Communicator client and Constellation broadcasting technologies to detail news and other Web highlights and optionally push that information to users' desktops. The Guide, which replaces the current Netscape Destinations, will be accessible from the Netscape Internet site and the Communicator toolbar, guaranteeing huge hits - Netscape claims its Internet site hosts four million visitors a day. Currently in beta testing, Communicator is Netscape's browser, e-mail and groupware suite.

As well as selecting and organising content, Yahoo! will be responsible for advertising sales on the site. Eight categories (business, personal finance, sport, travel, computers, shopping and local information) will be offered to users as a default with the ability to organise personal "Front Pages" based on user-selected interests and preferences.

Netscape Guide by Yahoo! is due to launch in the April-June quarter and will be accessible to users of Netscape Navigator will be able to go to the service by clicking on the Destinations button.
