Neustar names Rackspace vet as CISO

Business intelligence firm Neustar taps Rackspace veteran Jonathan Coombes as chief information security officer.

Sterling, Va.-based business analytics firm Neustar announced this morning that it has named Jonathan Coombes as chief information security officer.

Coombes was formerly CSO at Rackspace Hosting, where he handled global cybersecurity and risk management, physical security, and compliance strategies. Prior to Rackspace he held security positions at USAA and IBM. He's also a Marine.

In the new role, Coombes will manage cyber and data security, risk management and business continuity.

"With Jonathan's guidance, we will continue to look for opportunities to strengthen our processes and standards designed to protect the confidential data of our customers and our company," said Alex Tulchinsky, Neustar's senior vice president for infrastructure and operations.

Neustar -- which primarily serves the Internet, telecom, entertainment and marketing industries -- has been on a bit of a hiring spree lately. Last month, the company appointed former FICO CEO Mark Greene to its board and tapped Cisco veteran Julian Lighton to lead strategy and corporate development. From the looks of things, the company wants to expand its customer base within its existing industries, particularly overseas.
