The Democrats in control of Congress say they've got a compromise energy bill that will pass both houses. It would raise auto and light truck fuel efficiency standards. And it would make it imperative that private utility companies use more renewable sources for their electricity. And therein lies the rub. Today it was indicated the White House would veto such a bill. One Bush administration official said the goal of the Democrats is to come up with a bill President Bush cannot sign.
