News Burst: EMI launches lawsuit to stop mobile tunes

Popularity of ring tone download site yourmobile.com has bought it to the attention of music industry giant EMI -- now it will have to pay the consequences

The $45m legal challenge music giant EMI launched against yourmobile.com last week has been met with alarm by the download site.

EMI claims that Global Music One (GMO), which runs yourmobile.com, has infringed the copyright of over 300 of EMI's songs, and is seeking $150,000 punitive damages for each alleged offence. Yourmobile.com lets mobile phone users download popular songs as ringing tones for free.
