News Burst: Europe looking good as IBM loses out to Dell

PC sales in Europe grew by 19.5 percent in the second quarter with the majority of action taking place on the continent according to figures from industry analyst Dataquest.

Europe has enjoyed strong growth in four consecutive quarters compared to the US which could only manage 12 percent growth in the second quarter.

Highlights:

  • Compaq records highest ever European market share of 15.5 percent and maintains top spot.

  • Dell, for the first time, takes number two position at the expense of IBM. Dell records growth of 79 percent quarter to quarter.

  • IBM has a miserable quarter, losing silver position and no sign of a turn around any time soon.
