News Burst: Five portal players will rule
Gartner Group predicts that by the year 2000, five Internet portal sites will dominate the Internet much as a small number of television networks rule the air waves.
It did not name the likely winners. "These portals will command the lion's share of Internet users. As a result, businesses that want to reach the broadest audience possible will have to find ways to align themselves with a portal site to advance their marketing and communications strategies," the company said.
