News Burst: IDC says initial Win98 shipments won't come close to Win95

Shipments of Microsoft's Windows 98 operating system during the second half of this year won't come anywhere close to the volume of shipments for its predecessor, Windows 95, during its first months of availability, International Data Corp. officials said in a report today.

Shipments of Microsoft's Windows 98 operating system during the second half of this year won't come anywhere close to the volume of shipments for its predecessor, Windows 95, during its first months of availability, International Data Corp. officials said in a report today.

IDC estimates that 12.8 million units of the OS will ship this, compared to 19.5 million Windows 95 units that shipped by the end of 1995.
