News Burst: Lucent hit by Melissa virus

Lucent Technologies, one of the world's leading telecommunications companies, has had no e-mail communication with the outside world since Monday as a result of the Melissa virus a spokeswoman told ZDNet today.

According to the spokeswoman the Melissa virus was discovered late Friday, forcing the company to shut down e-mail systems. The spokeswoman confirmed that no outgoing or incoming e-mail has been sent or received since Monday. The problem is still plaguing the firm although the IT department is working to "restore it as soon as possible," the spokeswoman said.
