News Burst: NEC to cut 6,000 jobs

NEC said today that it plans to cut 6,000 jobs, or five percent of its work force, over the next three years through attrition and a reduction in recruitment of new workers.

The semiconductor maker also said it will consolidate its assembly and packaging operations, moving a plant in Malaysia to one in Singapore, and relocating operations in Ireland to a plant here in the UK.
