News Burst: Office 2000 online

Office 2000 desktop suite will be made available for access over the Internet Microsoft announced Tuesday.

Called Office Online, the full product will be offered through the company's bCentral Web services, a portal that provides services to small companies. The service will allow customers to access their Windows desktop and Office applications by connecting to a Windows Terminal Server running Office 2000 through an Internet connection.

Microsoft has been feeling the pressure recently from Sun's StarOffice programme, a productivity suite comparable to Office, that is available for free download over the Internet.
