Called Office Online, the full product will be offered through the company's bCentral Web services, a portal that provides services to small companies. The service will allow customers to access their Windows desktop and Office applications by connecting to a Windows Terminal Server running Office 2000 through an Internet connection.
Microsoft has been feeling the pressure recently from Sun's StarOffice programme, a productivity suite comparable to Office, that is available for free download over the Internet.
