News Burst: Oftel defends delays in BT local loop access
Oftel announced this morning its decision to allow BT to unbundle its local loop by July 2001, representing no change from previous consultations
David Edmonds, Director General of Telecommunications, described BT's move towards unbundling as a "delay" and went on to say "the disadvantages to the UK are minimal... We support the government moves to make Internet access universally available, and the UK is not very far behind, in certain instances we are actually ahead of our European competitors".
