Siemens said today that it would shortly announce which operating system it favoured for its range of smart phones and PDAs. Speaking at a pre-CeBit briefing in Berlin, Rudi Lamprecht, Group President Informaion and Communication Networks, said that Siemens were weighing up the offerings from all the players and would make an announcement immenently.

The product showcase at the Berlin event includes all of the products that Siemens will be showing at CeBit next month. Windows CE products were prominent, a data module for Palm devices was also on show. It seems unliklely that Siemens will opt for the Symbian OS, where mobile rival Nokia already has a foothold. A CE device with a GSM data connection for wireless work drew a lot of attention at the showcase, but Siemens are unable to confirm any definite launch date for this device.
