News Burst: Via buys Cyrix for $167m
Via Technologies is to buy Cyrix for $167m (£102m) it is reported Tuesday.
The agreement between Taiwan's fastest growing maker of chipsets and National Semiconductor was formally signed Tuesday. It is expected the transaction will take about a month and will affect manufacturing plants in Texas, California and Singapore.
Despite National's failure to make Cyrix profitable, Via is convinced it can make a go of Cyrix. In an earlier report the company claimed it was not afraid to go head to head with chip giant Intel.
