Next-generation gaming consoles to reach $21.9 bln by 2008

Despite the early launch of the Xbox 360, the PS3 is expected to be the leading console by the end of 2007; a combination of its huge success with the PS2 and strong publisher support will ensure Sony retains top spot. Microsoft's new console will also fare well, accounting for around 30% of the total installed base by the end of 2010.

Despite the early launch of the Xbox 360, the PS3 is expected to be the leading console by the end of 2007; a combination of its huge success with the PS2 and strong publisher support will ensure Sony retains top spot. Microsoft's new console will also fare well, accounting for around 30% of the total installed base by the end of 2010. The next-generation console market will peak in 2008, when it will generate total revenues (hardware + software) of $21.9 bln. Software revenues will continue to rise until 2010, at which point sales will reach $16.8 bln, according to Research and Markets.
