Mobile telecomms giant Nokia has revealed that wireless LAN technology will form the core of its IP Mobility strategy.
The company's system will include wireless LAN access points, wireless LAN cards, software and utilities for installation, management, and integration with existing wired networks.
Nokia said it is gunning for public usage in areas such as hotels, campuses and convention centres as well as the more traditional corporate environment.
All products will be IEEE 802.11b compliant, using the 2.4GHz frequency and direct sequence radio (DSSS) technology.
Nokia was a founding member of the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA).
Products are expected to ship in Spring 2000.
