NTT Com takes major stake in German data centre company e-shelter

Deal leaves NTT Com with 92,000 square meters of data centre space in nine European cities.

NTT Communications, the IT services and communications business of NTT, has acquired an 86.7 percent stake in German data centre company e-shelter. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition expands NTT Com's data centre space in Europe to 92,000 square meters in nine cities: previously it stood at 19,500 square meters in four cities.

e-shelter designs, builds, and operates high-availability data centres, and was established in 2000. It operates over 70,000 square meters of server rooms, including 40,000 square meters at its main site in Frankfurt - where it runs Europe's largest data centre.

It also has sites in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Vienna, and Zurich. Clients include financial services companies, telecoms operators, and governmental agencies.

NTT Com said it plans to expand its data centres operations further in Europe as demand for space continues to grow.
