Online map will be millennium's doomsday book

It's a map, but not as we know it...
Written by Jane Wakefield, Contributor

An aerial map of the UK, touted as the millennium equivalent of the Doomsday book, will be available on the Internet from January.

The map will cover every part of the UK and pick out details as small as a human head. Users will be able to click on any area and zoom in on their own town, viallage or house. Photographs will be available for around £10.

The company behind the project -- Millennium Mapping Company -- believes there will be a variety of commercial uses for the map, including being used for boundary or planning permission for local authorities, utilities using it to plan its networks and estate agents using it to show properties.
