Panasonic has announced that its DMP-B15 portable Blu-ray player, the world's first such portable player, will be shipping this month for the princely sum of $800.

The DMP-B15 will provide about 2.5 hours of Blu-ray movie goodness per charge on an 8.9-in. WSVGA display. The device also includes Panasonic's VIERA CAST Internet accessibility, BD Live functionality and SD card slot.

According to the company, the DMP-B15 "includes all the technology found in its stand-alone counterparts" --  the DMP-BD60, DMP-BD80 and the VHS-Blu-ray dual player DMP-BD70V.

The device can be connected to an HDTV via an HDMI cable, and can be used as a stand-alone Blu-ray player. It can also connect to an HD-Audio compatible AV receiver with a home theater speaker system.

It's available this month of June for $799.95.
