PC market to grow 9% in 2005

Worldwide PC shipments will slow in 2005 as the latest replacement cycle winds down but are still expected to post a 9% increase, according to Gartner. 199 mln PCs would be shipped globally in 2005, compared to 183 mln in 2004.

Worldwide PC shipments will slow in 2005 as the latest replacement cycle winds down but are still expected to post a 9% increase, according to Gartner. 199 mln PCs would be shipped globally in 2005, compared to 183 mln in 2004. The dip is expected to continue through 2007 to 2008. Mobile PC shipments will continue to drive the market, increasing by 17.4% over 2004. Desktop PCs, meanwhile, are forecast to grow by 6.1%.
