Pebble continues to improve the functionality of its smartwatch lineup and go toe-to-toe with Android Wear devices. Android smartphone Pebblers should update today.

After reporting smartwatch sales exceeding 1 million units a couple of weeks ago, Pebble continues to active support and improve the Pebble experience.

Pebble announced a major update for Android smartphone Pebble owners that includes Android Wear notifications. This feature was previously in a beta release, but is now available in the Google Play Store for all Android Pebble owners.

Along with the updated Pebble Android app (version 2.3), your Pebble will be updated to firmware version 2.9 if you didn't have the update already.

The Pebble Android 2.3 release includes the following:

  • Android Wear Notifications
  • Pebbler-defined replies
  • Reply from Pebble using most Android-compatible SMS messaging apps
  • Automatic app and watchface updates when Pebble is idle
  • Support for Android 4.0+ devices
  • Fixed Issues with Whatsapp notifications

It looks like it's time to charge my original Kickstarter Pebble back up and take this new firmware and Android software for a spin.
