The Pebble started as a Kickstarter campaign in mid-2012 and shipped to backers in early 2013. In an interview with The Verge, Pebble CEO Eric Migicovsky reported that Pebble has shipped over one million smartwatches by December 31, 2014.
There are currently two versions of the Pebble, the original and the Pebble Steel. Both saw price cuts in 2014 and appear to be selling rather well in a growing smartwatch market.
Pebble saw competition from Android Wear in 2014 and the Apple Watch launches in just a few months. However, the Pebble remains a worthy competitor with its cross platform support, growing app store, and low price compared to Android Wear and Apple Watch models.
Migicovsky stated that Pebble will be launching new smartwatches along with a new software platform that reportedly offers something unique. The new platform sounds interesting and may be what is needed to convince consumers a smartwatch is worth their money.
