PostScript 3 honed for wired world
Adobe has formally announced PostScript Level 3, an upgrade to the page description language (PDL) that is focused on bringing WYSIWYG printing to the World Wide Web and other digital distribution media.
Level 3 is an attempt to maintain formatting on documents that are sent digitally via e-mail, Web pages, intra-nets digital cameras and other sources. Specifically, it improves imaging (including support for 3D graphics), speeds page processing by treating objects separately, offers Web-based printer management, and has better international font support. Adobe will tout the technology as "PostScript for the Wired World".
Products based on PostScript Level 3 will be available in the second half of 1997, Adobe said.
