in brief Airline giant Qantas today bypassed a Japanese government regulation that prevented customers from purchasing flights out of Japan using an online booking system, despite the fact that flights and seats were available.

Qantas told ZDNet Australia this afternoon that online booking system policies relating to Japanese government regulations didn't allow flights to be booked online within three days of the travel date.
The airline advised however that the system rule had been lifted in light of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
"There are plenty of seats available," Qantas assured.
