Repurpose brings compostable cup to consumers

Bed Bath & Beyond will carry cups made out of 'plant materials' (not oil) that have been available to commercial food-service operations since early in 2011.

Repurpose Compostables, which earlier this year launched a compostable, insulated coffee cup aimed at commercial food service operations, has now created a consumer edition of that product.

The cup is being sold at Bed Bath & Beyond. The paper used in its making comes from FSC-certified sources, and Los Angeles-based Repurpose Compostables said it can be composted in approximately 90 days in a commercial setting. In its marketing, the company is really playing up the fact that the cup is based out of plant-based materials and that, unlike other cups, it doesn't contain petroleum.
