Rumor: Microsoft planning own-brand tablet

According to the reports, Microsoft is in talks with Texas Instruments and Taiwan-based OEMs/ODMs to produce the own-brand tablets.

Microsoft may be planning to release an own-brand tablet, according to reports by DigiTimes.

According to the rumors, Microsoft is in talks with Texas Instruments and Taiwan-based OEMs/ODMs to produce the own-brand tablets.

According to the reports, Microsoft is facing still competition from Apple and its iOS platform, and seeing more pressure from Google's Android platform. The rumors suggest that Microsoft is planning to 'copy its branding strategy from product lines such as Xbox 360, Zune, Kin smartphone and TV, to compete in the tablet PC segment.'

The Xbox 360 has been a successful brand for Microsoft, while Zune, Kin and own-brand TVs have not.

This would be interesting. I think I'd prefer to use a machine based on Microsoft's idea of what a Windows tablet should be than I would using one from one of the big-name OEMs.

Microsoft is not confirming this rumor.
