Satyam Computer Services will be setting up a Global Development Centre in in Cyberjaya, Malaysia - the largest such facility outside of its home base in India.
The centre, which will serve Satyam customers in the Asia Pacific region as well as the Middle East and US is expected to be ready within 12 months.
The reasons given by Satyam chairman Ramalinga Raju for choosing Malaysia were i) IT infrastructure ii) IT talent iii) competitive costs.
He said that in the first year, Satyam would hire about 500 software engineers, gradually increasing that number to 2000 over the next four years.
This will be a boon for Malaysian IT graduates as the Satyam founder has said that they would be sourcing the new hires from among local graduates.
