Seagate and Samsung on Thursday inked a joint development and licensing pact designed to makes solid state drives more enterprise friendly.

Specifically, the two companies will develop and cross-license controller technologies for solid state drives (SSDs). The goal is to improve performance and reliability, according to a statement.

Samsung will contribute its flash memory knowhow and Seagate will bring the storage intellectual property.

Overall, Samsung and Seagate are aiming to be players in the SSD market as enterprises increasingly mix and match solid state and traditional drives in storage arrays.
